I woke up this morning to -8 degrees. AGAIN. As everyone knows, this winter has been brutal, particularly for this displaced Florida girl whose thermostat, as my dear friend Carroll says, is set to orchid. Here, alone in my studio in the NH woods, I knew I was in trouble when I started to relate to Jack Nicholson’s character in The Shining, where he types over and over “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” except mine would say, “All cold and no warm makes Tricia very, very hostile.”
Fortunately, I’ve had plenty of creative projects to keep me busy, which is one of the reasons why I fell off the blogging earth — my apologies. (As a friend says, you can’t dance at two weddings at the same time. He’s right.) One of those projects includes telling a new story on The Moth Mainstage at The Music Hall in Portsmouth, NH this weekend. The theme is “Coming Home” and the evening will include famed storyteller and NH native Adam Wade and the incomparable Dan Kennedy as host. Below is a story Dan told several years ago for The Moth and it is hands down one of my most favorite. Enjoy — and stay warm!
