Lucky for me, I was asked by The Moth to help them promote their bestselling new book, The Moth: 50 True Stories at Boston’s Trident Bookstore last week. There were about 100 people in the sold-out venue, with 150 more people on the waiting list. The art of storytelling just keeps getting more popular and The Moth is leading the charge.
Shamefully, I realized I had not yet bought the Moth’s book, so when I got to the Trident, I bought my copy. I have been glued to it ever since. While I’ve heard almost all of the stories either on the radio or in person, there is something wonderful about slowly savoring the words on the page. As The New York Times Magazine says:
The stories not only maintain their oral integrity but take on new dimensions, allowing you to ponder a turn of events or swirl the language around in your head without missing the next part of the story.
If you haven’t yet bought the book, I urge you to buy it now — preferably from an independent bookstore like the Trident! And if the page is not for you, go to The Moth website and hear the stories as they were told live.
Happily, I’ve been asked to join The Moth on their Mainstage March 8 at The Music Hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, with fellow Moth storyteller Adam Wade and three others. The theme is “Coming Home.” The Tricia Ball may make an appearance, as well as my pesky practice husband’s girlfriend. And the wheels begin to turn…
